Clinical Application Analyst - PACS Administration

Clinical Application Analyst - PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System) administrator for Radiology and Cardiology is an IT professional in a healthcare setting who is responsible for the daily operation, maintenance, and support of medical imaging systems in both departments. Manages and maintains the systems used to store, retrieve, distribute, and display medical images. Act as a critical link between clinical staff, IT teams, and vendors to ensure seamless operations and high-quality patient care.

System Management: Overseeing the daily operation, maintenance, and support of the PACS and related imaging systems (e.g., in radiology and cardiology departments). Oversee the daily operations of the PACS, ensuring 24/7 availability and optimal performance for both radiology and cardiology imaging applications. This includes performing routine maintenance, system backups, and quality assurance (QA/QC) monitoring. Lead and handle multiple projects and responsibilities simultaneously.

System Integration & Upgrades: Planning, coordinating, testing and implementing system upgrades, patches, new software/hardware installations in collaboration with clinical departments, IT, and vendors to minimize disruption to patient care and the integration of new imaging modalities and related systems like Electronic Health Records (EHR) and Radiology Information Systems (RIS).


Key Skills and Qualifications (Education and Experience)

  • Education: An associate or bachelor’s degree in information technology, Health Informatics, Radiologic Technology, or a related field is typically required or preferred.
  • Technical Knowledge: Proficiency with PACS software platforms, networking fundamentals, database management (e.g., SQL), and technical standards such as DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine) and HL7 is essential.
  • Experience: 3 to 5 years of experience in a radiology and cardiology or related clinical and IT related field. IT experience preferred. Relevant experience in healthcare, particularly within radiology or cardiology departments, is essential. Experience with specific PACS platforms (e.g., Change HealthCare, GE, Philips, Sectra, etc).
  • Certifications: PACS certifications are highly valued, including the Certified Imaging Informatics Professional (CIIP) from the American Board of Imaging Informatics or the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification. Certified Imaging Informatics Professional (CIIP) or Certified PACS Associate (CPAS) are highly valued and preferred.
