Purpose of Position
The Communications Intern assists the organization with various communication tasks, including content creation, social media engagement, website updates, and planning. This position will also help in developing Literacy Coalition’s 25th Anniversary communication strategy. The Communications intern position provides valuable experience in the nonprofit field.
The position reports to Lisa M. Stewart, CEO.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Social Media:
Create content for social media
Schedule 2 to 3 posts per week on LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube
Respond to comments on all social media platforms
Assist the CEO in designing a set of Social Media metrics that monitor user engagement, such as growth, number of clicks, demographics, and social media trends and platform usage
Bring ideas to the team on social media strategy and posts
Website Updates:
Update webpages as needed for events, registration, and student open enrollment
Assist in designing new Literacy Coalition webpages that include our partnerships and advocacy
Bring ideas and thoughts to the CEO on how to improve the website
25th Anniversary:
Work with the CEO to create a communications strategy for Literacy Coalition’s 25th Anniversary year
Participate in designing a 25th Anniversary series for the Literacy Coalition that includes current and past board members, staff, partners, and students
Assist in designing the theme for 25 years of impact and a new logo to use throughout the year
Support Literacy Coalition staff in planning and executing 25th Anniversary events
Bring ideas to the team on the 25th Anniversary ideas and topics

High level of organization and ability to meet deadlines
Strong communication skills and the ability to speak up when needed
Multi-cultural sensitivity and ease in diverse social settings
Basic computer knowledge, including email, Microsoft Word, and Excel
Education (Minimum requirements)
Degree/Diploma Obtained Program of Study Required/Preferred:
Bachelor of Science, Communications
Required to be at least a junior or senior in college, working on their bachelor's degree
Master’s student preferred
Experience (Minimum requirements):
1-Year of Experience Preferred
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $21.00 per hour
