Overview – Senior Communications Specialist

JANSON is seeking a passionate, purposeful, and problem-solving individual to serve as our Communications Specialist in the Fort Belvoir (Springfield), VA area in support of a developing program office. This is a full-time, hybrid position with an expectation to work a minimum of 3 days a week in the office and the remainder from your home office.

This position requires a professional who can successfully support multi-effort public affairs needs in a fast-paced acquisitions environment and is skilled in all aspects of government communications. The ideal candidate will excel in both team and individual work situations, and present a decisive, professional demeanor to successfully engage with peers and senior government officials. Proven experience producing print products, developing executive briefings, and field photography is required. Department of War (DoW) experience is required.

Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for the oversight, development and execution of strategic public affairs programs and campaigns leveraging all available communications conduits and emerging technologies to most effectively communicate the PEO Soldier mission
  • Recommend strategies to facilitate understanding and support from industry, other federal agencies, congress, the general public, the Army Acquisition community and the Army as a whole, via a wide range of communication media
  • Supports client planning and preparation for major events, conferences, and media engagement
  • Recommends communication strategies and plans designed to achieve client goals and objectives
  • Provides written articles, press releases, or photos in support of programs
  • Proactive in seeking out story opportunities that advance the strategic narrative
  • Experience translating complex, technical subject matter for non-technical audiences
  • Experience drafting talking points, written articles, and marketing content

·Will be required to travel 50% of the time

· Written articles, press releases, marketing content, brochures, graphics, short-form social media videos

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communications or related field
  • 5+ years of supporting high level staff
  • 3+ years of experience as a Communications Specialist
  • Experience developing and executing communication planning and message functions that drive communication service and product development
  • Experience providing public affairs guidance as it relates to the Army
  • Experience with social media platforms, including, but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, Google+.
  • Experience writing, editing, and crafting content for the social media space.
  • Exceptional organizational and planning abilities
  • Strong client engagement skills and team player mentality
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Strong technology skills, including experience using MS Office products, MS Project (or equivalent), web browsers, etc.

Security Clearance (Secret)

Audio/Visual experience (assembling/checking/operating public address systems) a plus
