The Communications & Storytelling Manager develops and delivers compelling content that communicates the mission, impact, and voice of Chiefs for Change. Reporting to the Chief Communications Officer, this part-time position (up to 20 hours per week) supports strategic communications, digital engagement, and narrative development across platforms. The Manager curates and produces stories that amplify the work of CFC members, initiatives, and partners—helping connect place-based transformation efforts to a national audience.
This position also provides hands-on support for member-facing events, including communications planning, run-of-show design, speaker preparation, and technical support, ensuring all CFC engagements reflect the organization’s professionalism, clarity, and brand.
Content Creation & Storytelling

Develop and write engaging stories, blog posts, newsletters, and social media content that highlight member and organizational impact.

Translate complex education initiatives into accessible, inspiring narratives for diverse audiences.

Document lessons learned, narrative framing, and results from CFC’s initiatives to support thought leadership and funder reporting.

Collaborate across teams to identify and frame stories that reinforce CFC’s values of equity, transparency, and collaboration.
Event Communications & Member-Facing Support

Plan and manage communications for briefings, webinars, and convenings, ensuring cohesive event messaging and follow-up.

Create and manage run-of-show documents, ensuring smooth coordination between internal teams, speakers, and external partners.

Prepare and support speakers with talking points, bios, and presentation materials.

Provide technical and event-day support for virtual and in-person engagements, including logistics, platform setup, and post-event follow-up.

Ensure all materials and participant experiences reflect CFC’s brand, tone, and commitment to equity and inclusion.
Digital Communications & Media

Manage digital platforms (website, newsletters, and social media scheduling tools) to ensure consistent and timely messaging.

Support campaign and publication rollouts in partnership with the Development and Policy teams.

Monitor and analyze digital engagement data and use insights to refine strategy and content delivery.
Stakeholder Mapping & Engagement

Conduct stakeholder mapping and segmentation to ensure communications are targeted to members, funders, and partners.

Maintain contact and distribution lists for outreach and engagement.

Coordinate with internal partners to ensure alignment of communications and relationship strategies.
Brand & Message Alignment

Ensure all content reflects CFC’s voice, tone, and commitment to equity, transparency, and excellence.

Support the creation of materials that communicate organizational milestones, events, and initiatives.

Collaborate with the Chief Communications Officer to refine messaging frameworks and storytelling strategies.
Cross-Functional Collaboration

Work closely with the Development, Policy, and Network Support teams to integrate communications into fundraising, advocacy, and program activities.

Partner with the Chief Communications Officer to maintain editorial calendars and manage project timelines.

Collaborate with Operations on event logistics and deliverables.

Contribute to internal communications that reinforce organizational culture and staff engagement.
Requirements:
Education:
-
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or a related field required.
Experience:

Minimum of 7 years of experience in communications, storytelling, or content management, preferably in education or nonprofit settings.

Experience managing social media, newsletters, and digital content platforms.

Demonstrated experience managing event communications, including run-of-show, speaker preparation, and tech/event support.
Technical Skills:

Proficiency in communications tools and media management platforms.

Strong knowledge of social media, digital marketing, branding, narrative and content strategy.
