Communications & Community Engagement Coordinator

Location: Sandy Springs, GA (Onsite)

Reports To: Assistant Director of Communications

About the Role
The City of Sandy Springs is seeking a creative, detail-driven Communications & Community Engagement Coordinator to help tell the City’s story, deepen community connections, and support a variety of public-facing initiatives. This position plays a key role in producing high-quality content, driving digital engagement, and supporting both internal and external communications. In addition, the role contributes to the City’s vibrant cultural landscape by coordinating rotating gallery exhibits and assisting with public art programming.

Key Responsibilities

  • Write, edit, and distribute the City’s bi-weekly newsletter and City Springs’ monthly newsletter.

  • Manage and maintain the City’s email database for residents, businesses, and community partners.

  • Create clear, engaging content for websites, digital marketing, and printed materials.

  • Collaborate with internal departments to develop messaging that highlights City priorities, programs, and services.

  • Ensure all communications meet WCAG 2.1, Level AA accessibility standards and adhere to AP style and City branding.

  • Attend public meetings and community events to share updates, gather feedback, and support outreach efforts.

  • Manage elements of the City’s public art initiatives, including quarterly gallery rotations in City Hall and select public art events or installations.

  • Partner with local artists and cultural organizations to promote art that enhances community spaces and reflects Sandy Springs’ identity.

  • Serve as the point person for internal City events, ensuring all logistical and marketing components are executed effectively.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or a closely related field.

  • Strong writing and editing skills with knowledge of AP style.

  • Experience managing digital platforms, including websites and e-newsletters.

  • Understanding of WCAG 2.1, Level AA accessibility requirements and ability to produce compliant content.

  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to juggle multiple deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience or demonstrated interest in public art administration, community arts, or cultural programming.
