Compliance, Risk & Safety Director

Position Summary
The Compliance, Risk, and Safety Director provide expert leadership in the
development, implementation, and oversight of organization-wide programs addressing
regulatory compliance, risk management, patient and staff safety, and quality initiatives.
This position ensures adherence to federal, state, and local regulations, promotes a
safe and effective healthcare environment, and fosters an organizational culture that
prioritizes ethical practices, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage all compliance, risk, and safety programs to ensure alignment
with healthcare regulations (TJC, OSHA, CMS, HIPAA) and organizational
policies.
Oversee risk assessments, mitigation strategies, incident investigations, and root
cause analyses, reporting findings and corrective actions to senior leadership.
Develop, implement, and regularly review policies, protocols, and best practices
for regulatory compliance, privacy, and staff credentialing.
Maintain and enhance the patient safety program, coordinate quality
improvement initiatives, and monitor performance indicators to drive optimal
patient care outcomes.
Serve as the organization’s liaison with regulatory agencies and lead responses
to audits, site visits, and compliance surveys.
Supervise and mentor direct reports, ensuring ongoing education, competency,
and professional development in compliance and safety domains.
Facilitate training and education for all employees on compliance, risk
management, and workplace safety.
Manage investigations of adverse events and non-compliance issues, promoting
transparent reporting and timely resolution.
Lead continuous process improvement projects to optimize workflow efficiency,
minimize risk and enhance safety culture across the facility.
Prepare and present clear, actionable compliance and risk reports to executive
management and the Board.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, Nursing (BSN preferred), or
related field; Master’s degree, JD, or advanced certification desired (CHC,
CHRC, CHPC, RHIA, CPMA).
6+ years of progressive experience in healthcare compliance, risk management,
and patient safety roles.
In-depth knowledge of current federal and Texas healthcare laws, regulations,
and accreditation standards.
Demonstrated ability to lead teams, drive culture change, manage multifaceted
projects, and interpret regulations into practical applications.
Superior communication, analytical, and collaboration skills; able to influence at
all organizational levels.
Experience developing, maintaining, and refining quality monitoring systems and
compliance documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
RN license in Texas or other clinical background.
Experience in large, multi-site healthcare systems.
Advanced certifications (CHC, CHPC, JD, MBA).
Proficiency in Lean, Six Sigma, or other quality/process improvement
methodologies.
Work Conditions
Full-time, exempt position.
Reports to Chief Executive Officer or Board, and Chief Nursing Officer
In-charge of regulatory and audit activities.
