Job Overview
We are seeking for two dynamic and innovative Composite Design Engineers to join our team. In this role, the ideal should have strong technical foundations in mechanical engineering, hands-on experience with polymer matrix composites, and a solid understanding of composite design, analysis, and manufacturing processes.
The engineers will contribute to the design, testing, and optimization of composite pipe systems, fittings, joints, and structural components produced using filament winding, centrifugal casting, and advanced composite manufacturing techniques.
Responsibilities
- Design and analyze FRPM/GRP composite components including pipes, fittings, and couplings.
- Develop and optimize layered composite laminate designs, fiber orientations, and material selections.
- Conduct mechanical calculations and structural simulations.
- Collaborate with production teams on composite manufacturing processes, including: filament winding, centrifugal casting, lamination and butt & wrap and composite fittings
- Support and development of qualification and testing programs (long-term tests, burst tests, tensile, shear, flexural).
- Prepare engineering documentation, design reports, test plans, and specifications.
- Troubleshoot design and production issues related to composite structures.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in materials, processes, and design optimization.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum 3 years of experience in composite design and polymer matrix composite manufacturing processes.
- Experience with composite structural analysis (laminate theory, shell behavior, anisotropic material calculations).
- Familiarity with composite manufacturing processes (filament winding, centrifugal casting, hand lay-up lamination, resin curing systems).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to interpret and apply engineering standards and test methods.
- Strong communication and technical writing skills.
Approximately 25% travel within the U.S. and internationally, with responsibilities including:
- Attending technical meetings with clients
- Presenting engineering solutions and participating in design reviews
- Supporting field investigations, audits, and project evaluations
- Responding to client technical inquiries and representing Hobas Pipe USA professionally
- Assisting with failure analysis investigations when necessary
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with FEA tools (Abaqus, ANSYS, or similar).
- Knowledge of composite testing standards (ASTM, ISO, API 15HR).
- Experience in piping systems, pressure vessels, or structural composites.
- Hands-on experience in R&D or industrial production environments.
