Job Description:

The Construction Paralegal is responsible for assisting attorneys during the litigation process. This includes but is not limited to handling pre-claim investigations, drafting legal documents, document review, maintaining indexes, organizing case files and attending trial.

  • Must be well-versed in federal and state court procedures, including AAA arbitration rules, with a strong understanding of e-filing protocols in both federal and state courts.
  • Perform a wide range of administrative litigation support duties, including calendaring hearings, court appearances, and calculating discovery and procedural deadlines.
  • Draft routine court filings such as notices of appearance, pro hac vice motions, motions for extension of time, motions for default, deposition notices, and subpoenas with precision and adherence to jurisdictional requirements.
  • Manage both hard copy and electronic case files, including organizing and maintaining email correspondence, electronic document repositories, and preparing comprehensive deposition, hearing, and trial binders.
  • Conduct targeted internet research, including retrieving case law and legal authority from Westlaw and other legal research platforms.
  • Assist with document production processes, including redaction, duplication, and Bates labeling of responsive materials.
  • Perform cite-checking of legal briefs and memoranda, ensuring accuracy of legal citations and exhibit references.
  • Organize, analyze, and index legal documents and exhibits to support case strategy and trial preparation.
  • Provide comprehensive support for deposition preparation, including witness file creation and coordination with attorneys.
  • Demonstrate advanced eDiscovery capabilities, including drafting and implementing ESI protocols, collaborating with the eDiscovery team to establish and maintain Relativity databases, applying tagging criteria, conducting document review, and managing team workflows for document production.
  • Maintain and update the Deposition Database (Opus2), ensuring accuracy and accessibility of deposition transcripts and exhibits.
  • Create and manage trial exhibit lists and deposition designation databases; assist in the preparation of pre-trial and post-trial briefing materials.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with individuals at all levels of the firm, demonstrating a high level of service orientation and discretion.
  • Organize and manage litigation matters from inception through trial and appeal, including document production, deposition coordination, and trial logistics.
  • Exhibit excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with shifting priorities.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree with ABA-approved paralegal certification, or Associate’s/Bachelor’s degree in Paralegal Studies, preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a litigation paralegal in a law firm or corporate legal department.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong proofreading abilities.
  • Solid knowledge of legal principles, litigation procedures, and court rules.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply litigation knowledge across all phases of the case lifecycle, from pre-trial through post-trial.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to case management.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with attorneys, clients, and staff while maintaining a high standard of professionalism and client service.
  • Proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with the utmost discretion and integrity.
  • Willingness and ability to work moderate to heavy overtime as needed to meet case deadlines and trial schedules.
