The DAV Group - Chennai, functioning under the aegis of Tamil Nadu Arya Samaj Educational Society was established in 1970 at Gopalapuram in Chennai with just 50 students. The Group today, caters to over 40,000 students across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. It has a staff of 1500 plus which includes 1,200 teachers. Four of our branches have been consistently ranked amongst top 15 schools in the country.

In addition to K-12 schooling, DAV has recently ventured into Higher Education with DAV-SMK Fomra College of Arts & Science at Kelambakkam, Chennai.

In this context, we are seeking a caring and competent School Counsellor with 2–3 years of counselling experience to support students across all grade levels (primary through senior). The counsellor will provide academic, emotional, social and career guidance to help students succeed, grow holistically, and overcome personal or academic challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Offer individual and group counselling to address students’ emotional, social, behavioural and academic-planning needs.
  • Guide students in academic planning, study-skills, career / future-education counselling and transitions.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents/guardians and school administration to ensure coordinated student support; maintain confidentiality and proper documentation.

Minimum Qualification & Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Psychology / Counselling / Child & Adolescent Psychology / Social Work (or related).
  • At least 2–3 years of prior experience as counsellor — preferably in a school or child/adolescent-focused setting.
  • Empathy, active listening, sensitivity to children & adolescents, non-judgmental attitude.
  • Good understanding of mental-health issues in young people, behavioural guidance, trauma awareness or therapy-informed counselling (advantageous).
  • Ability to engage with diverse students (cultural, social backgrounds), and adapt counselling methods accordingly.
  • Strong communication (verbal and written), collaboration with teachers/parents/staff, record-keeping, confidentiality.
  • Organizational skills, ability to manage multiple students / groups / programmes concurrently.
