HOURS: Full-time, exempt

SALARY & BENEFITS: $82,000 – $89,000; generous PTO; 12 Paid holidays; health, vision & dental benefi ts, HSA or FSA with employee match; Simple IRA with employee contribution

Organizational Overview

Safe Haven Ministries—a faith based nonprofit organization located in Grand Rapids, Michigan—believes in a multi-faceted approach to serving victims/survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking and preventing domestic violence in our community. Safe Haven offers comprehensive residential and non-residential services; confidential emergency shelter for individuals and families fleeing domestic violence and human trafficking; psycho-educational support groups; individual case management and advocacy; and primary prevention training and outreach for the entire community.

Position Overview

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Advancement Director (AD) serves as a key leadership team member and an active participant in making strategic decisions affecting Safe Haven Ministries (SHM). SHM is seeking an enterprising leader to lead a growing Advancement team in creating and sustaining the Annual Fund Program and Communications strategy to share the compelling story of Safe Haven Ministries. The ideal Director will demonstrate a high capacity for problem solving, storytelling, and a collaborative spirit to build effective teams, programs, and initiatives. The successful candidate will help forge new relationships to build Safe Haven Ministries’ visibility, impact, and financial resources while cultivating and growing existing donor relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the Annual Fund Program in collaboration with the dynamic Development Team. This includes aligning all efforts to;
    a. Cultivate donor relationships
    b. Annual Events and Small Events
    c. Support Grant Funding and Foundation Initiatives
    d. Diversify Revenue Streams with public, private, and foundation resources
  • Lead the Communications and Marketing Strategy to produce quality content and share the compelling story of Safe Haven Ministries.
    a. Recognize and build a multi-channel communication strategy
    b. Print Publications
    c. Social Media Campaigns
    d. New Initiatives (e.g., Podcasts, Shorts, etc.)
  • Supervise, empower, and support the Development Team to maximize the strengths and capacity of each team member in support of developing quality donor relationships and effective fundraising campaigns.
    a. Development Coordinator
    b. Grants and Foundation Coordinator
  • Support Major Gifts Initiatives in coordination with CEO to strengthen relationships and secure major gifts to advance the mission of Safe Haven.
    a. Empower the CEO and Board to engage major donors in a relational manner to build aligned vision and collective impact
    b. Support
  • Monitor and evaluate annual plans and initiatives with a focus on continuous improvement, adaptive growth, and cultivation of new strategies to reach fundraising goals and outcomes.
    a. Provide timely reporting on Advancement efforts and development outcomes to the leadership team and board
  • Mobilize community partners to advocate for the mission of Safe Haven Ministries and share the story to enable participation and investment of time, financial resources, and expertise.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required or Preferred

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in a nonprofit organization preferred; demonstrated success in advancement and development function (managing and forging relationships with multiple donor sources including public/private grants)
  • Tangible experience of having expanded and cultivated existing donor relationships over time with a relational approach
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; ability to infl uence and engage a wide range of donors and cultivate and build long-term relationships
  • Ability to construct, articulate, and implement annual strategic development plan
  • Flexible and adaptable style; a leader who can positively impact both strategic and tactical fundraising initiatives
  • High level of critical thinking and problem solving to address adaptive challenges
  • Ability to engage the team and donors with a high level of emotional intelligence
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail; ability to manage multiple tasks and project simultaneously
  • Ability to train and lead development staff
  • Ability to productively engage with others at varying levels of seniority within and outside SHM
  • High energy and passion for SHM’s mission are essential
