PURPOSE OF ROLE

The Director of Development – East is responsible for cultivating and stewarding relationships with individuals, churches, and key partners across the Eastern region of the United States to grow financial support for Alpha's mission.

This role focuses on major gifts and regional relationship management—building meaningful connections with current and prospective donors, sharing Alpha's impact through compelling storytelling, and partnering with the Chief Development Officer to advance regional fundraising goals.

The Director will work collaboratively with other regional Development Directors, the Donor Communications team, and the Events team to ensure donors experience clear, personal, and mission-driven engagement with Alpha USA.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES & FUNCTIONS

Donor Cultivation & Stewardship

  • Manage and grow a portfolio of mid-level, major, and planned giving donors within the Eastern region.
  • Cultivate authentic relationships through personal visits, phone calls, and written communication.
  • Develop customized cultivation and stewardship plans that align with donor interests and Alpha's priorities.
  • Solicit gifts in alignment with Alpha's funding needs and donor passions, securing both annual and multi-year commitments.
  • Ensure timely and meaningful donor follow-up, including thank-you communications, reports, and updates on impact.

Strategic Fundraising & Regional Growth

  • Contribute to the overall fundraising strategy by identifying new opportunities for growth and engagement within the region.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Development Officer to develop and execute an annual fundraising plan with measurable goals.
  • Represent Alpha USA at events, gatherings, and church engagement opportunities to expand the donor base and deepen existing relationships.
  • Partner with the Donor Communications team to ensure consistent, high-quality messaging and materials are used in all donor interactions.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Development leadership and peers in other regions to ensure alignment, collaboration, and shared best practices.
  • Coordinate with the Events and Marketing teams to plan and execute strategic donor and vision events in the region.
  • Collaborate with the Finance team to ensure gift tracking, data integrity, and reporting accuracy.

Data, Reporting & Accountability

  • Maintain accurate and timely donor records, contact notes, and pipeline updates within the CRM system (Salesforce preferred).
  • Track progress toward fundraising goals, including donor retention, new donor acquisition, and revenue targets.
  • Use data and insights to inform strategy and continuously improve donor engagement approaches.

ROLE DIMENSIONS

  • Budget Management: Manages travel and event budgets for the Eastern region.
  • People Management: N/A
  • Internal Relationships: Development leadership, Donor Communications, Events, Marketing, and Finance teams.
  • External Relationships: Major donors, church leaders, ministry partners, and community networks.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Business, Communications, Nonprofit Management, or a related field.

Experience:

  • 7+ years of experience in fundraising, development, or relationship management (nonprofit or ministry setting preferred).
  • Proven success in securing five- and six-figure gifts from individuals or organizations.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a regional portfolio of donors and achieve annual revenue goals.
  • Alpha experience preferred.

  • Exceptional relationship-building and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; confident public speaker.
  • Strategic thinker with strong organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Self-motivated and proactive; able to work independently in a remote or field-based environment.
  • Proficiency with CRM systems (Salesforce preferred), Microsoft Office, and virtual communication tools.
