Director of Human Resources

Job Location: Fargo ND

Are you passionate about HR strategy and project management? As the Director of HR at Houston Engineering, Inc. (HEI), you’ll lead our Human Resources function and team, helping to shape the future of our firm. As a key member of HEI’s management team, you’ll serve as a key advisor to leadership and drive HR initiatives that support growth, culture, engagement, and operational excellence.

• Lead and evolve the HR strategy in alignment with firmwide goals.
• Oversee all HR functions, including talent acquisition, employee engagement, learning and development, compliance, compensation, and benefits.
• Lead and mentor a high-performing HR team, promoting innovation and collaboration.
• Guide organizational development initiatives including succession planning, leadership development, and cultural integration for M&A activity.
• Partner with executive leadership on workforce planning, change management, and policy development.
• Champion performance management by implementing tools, processes, and leadership training.
• Drive a positive workplace culture through coaching, employee relations, and clear communication.
• Develop and execute strategic talent acquisition.
• Ensure compliance with employment laws and mitigate HR-related risks.

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
• 10+ years of progressive HR experience, including 3-5 years in a people management role.
• Strong leadership, project management, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• SHRM-CP certification is highly desired.
• Must be able to travel to HEI offices and other relevant areas as needed, typically no more than a few times a month.
