Position Summary: Responsible for overall organization and effectiveness of the Transportation Services Department; including selecting, training and supervising staff; scheduling resident trips; implementing training; and managing vehicle maintenance programs. The Transportation Services Director oversees transportation at St. John’s Home, St. John’s Meadows and Brickstone by St. John’s.

Qualifications & Education Required:

  • High School Graduate or equivalent is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in organizational management or related preferred but not required.
  • 3 years minimum in a high-volume Transportation Services Management position
  • Valid NYS CDL
  • Clean Motor Vehicle Record
  • Fluent in the English Language

Position Competencies:

  • Provide outstanding customer service to all residents, guests, volunteers, employees.
  • Arrive on time, prepared to work.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Proficient in Transportation Services Management Software’s.
  • Perform daily vehicle safety inspections.
  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance on vehicles and perform vehicle safety inspections.
  • Ability to navigate within the Greater Rochester area.
  • Knowledge of wheelchair securement.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for a consistently safe, courteous and reliable transportation experience.
  • Responsible to ensure all resident transportation requests are processed in a timely manner.
  • Work collaboratively with department heads to meet their transportation needs.
  • Recruit, interview, train, supervise and evaluate all transportation staff.
  • Schedule all transportation staff.
  • Approve and maintain payroll for transportation staff.
  • Work with Vice President of Senior Housing on department budget planning and maintaining fiscal responsibility.
  • Provide all in-service training and continuing education for St. John’s authorized drivers.
  • Work with Vice President of Senior Housing to create, maintain and update departmental policies and procedures.
  • Conduct monthly transportation staff meetings.
  • Responsible to ensure all licenses, registrations, inspections, insurances and mandatories are up to date.
  • Responsible to manage and coordinate all vehicle fleet maintenance, preventative maintenance schedules and vehicle cleaning.
  • Conduct periodic vehicle and driver safety checks
  • Work with Vice President of Senior Housing t identify need for new vehicle(s) to include price quotes and purchasing
  • Complete oversight of authorized drivers list and License Event Notification System (NYS LENS) website.
  • Fill in for staff as a driver when necessary.
  • All other tasks assigned by management.

Physical Requirements:

  • Moderate physical demands include walking, climbing stairs, visual and auditory acuity. Ability to lift, pull or push up to 50 pounds.

Exposure includes but not limited to vehicle fluids, inclement weather and body flu
