We are seeking a highly experienced Safety Leader for Uber's AM&D Safety Team to effectively represent Uber s Safety standards and requirements to our partners and work closely with regulators in Europe and the Middle East.

This role requires a strong understanding of safety management system core concepts, tailored to autonomous vehicle operations, and knowledge of the relevant industry standards and regulations that inform these activities. The candidate will advocate for safety standards in regulatory meetings and work with fleet partners to ensure adherence to safety protocols, industry standards, and Uber's internal safety guidelines. This will be a highly cross-functional role, requiring collaboration with internal and external stakeholders in the complex and evolving AV space. This role will involve strategy, program management, and partner engagement responsibilities with a strong focus on cross functional collaboration, including local regulatory parties.

What You Will Do

  • Regulatory Advocacy and Representation: Act as the primary safety representative and subject matter expert in meetings with local regulators to advocate for and communicate Uber's safety approach and compliance status.
  • Technical Policy Advising: Leverage technical knowledge of industry safety approaches for AVs to support safety standards and regulation development
  • Fleet Partner Collaboration: Work collaboratively with fleet partners to assure that operational safety requirements are met, maintaining high standards in line with Uber's internal safety guidelines.
  • Compliance Monitoring: Conduct regular assurance reviews to evaluate ongoing compliance with established safety regulations and standards defined in Uber s Safety Assurance program, ensuring continuous improvement in safety practices.
  • Incident Response: Liaise with various stakeholders, including Uber team members, fleet partners, and regulatory bodies, to manage and coordinate responses to any safety incidents or concerns.
  • Fleet Partner Safety Enablement: Identify, track, and execute critical partner-related action items to meet safety requirements against operational goals
  • Industry Awareness: Stays current with safety & health industry trends, is a member of professional safety associations and has a strong network of safety professionals for best practice sharing.
  • Cross-functional Leadership: Collaborate with many different skilled individuals across Uber, including business development, fleets, product management, legal, policy, safety operations, marketing, engineering, and regional operations teams
  • Standards Development: Collaborate with peers in the industry to develop industry best practices and standards related to safety management systems through the AVSC, SAE, and other relevant standards development organizations.
