Position Summary
The American Museum of Natural History is one of the world’s preeminent scientific and cultural institutions, and has as its mission to discover, interpret, and disseminate information about human cultures, the natural world, and the universe through a wide-ranging program of scientific research, education, and exhibition.

The Communications and Marketing team is seeking a full-time Email and Digital Marketing Associate to focus on the Museum’s email programs and digital marketing campaigns to support the growth of Museum visitation and promotion of educational programs. The Associate coordinates the institutional email calendar, drafts copy and builds emails for Marketing and other departments, troubleshoots email issues and pulls lists from the Museum’s CRM platform. The Associate also assists in the creation and coordination of assets for various digital marketing campaigns, working closely with the Associate Director of Digital Marketing and external agency partner(s). The Associate also assists, when required, with other marketing and communications initiatives, contributing to the Museum’s many promotional efforts. This role reports to the Associate Director of Digital Marketing.

Job duties include but are not limited to:
  • Build and maintain emails for marketing and other departments across the Museum.
  • Supervise the creation and distribution of the Museum’s email calendar, “This Month at the Museum,” including writing copy, building emails, coordinating versioning with the Membership team and segmenting the list.
  • Partner with the Museum’s Senior Manager of Analytics to analyze email program performance. Develop insights/reports that can be shared with key constituents and include data-driven recommendations for optimization.
  • Work with the Marketing team to grow the Museum’s use of email as a communications platform by helping to identify and implement new strategies and tools including the use of A/B testing, triggered sends, personalization and dynamic content.
  • Provide Museum-wide support for use of the Museum’s email service provider, Wordfly.
  • Maintain the Museum’s central email calendar and coordinate send schedules between different internal departments.
  • QA all email builds to ensure they meet all technical and accessibility requirements as well as align with the Museum’s style guidelines.
  • Assist in the creation and trafficking of digital marketing assets for various marketing campaigns.


The expected salary range for the Email and Digital Marketing Associate is $55,000/annual – $68,000/annual. This position is overtime-eligible and the AMNH offers an extensive benefits package designed to meet the needs of our dedicated and diverse community.

Pay will be determined based on several factors. The hiring range for the position at commencement is based on the type of work and the scope of responsibilities. The salary and placement offered is based on a number of individualized factors, including, but not limited to, skills, knowledge, training, education, credentials, areas of specialization and depth and scope of experience.

Minimum Qualifications
  • 1-2 years of experience working on an organization’s email program.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of email design, build and deliverability best practices.
  • Ability to understand and interpret critical email metrics.
  • Experience with design, creative and/or copywriting.
  • Familiarity with list segmentation strategies and personalization.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with an ESP, preferably Wordfly.
  • Basic proficiency with HTML/CSS, email coding and/or WSYWYG platforms.
  • Experience using content management systems.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, including Excel for quantitative analysis and Word/PowerPoint for communication.
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop.
  • Experience in a museum, non-profit, ticketed attraction or academic setting.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.

Physical Demands
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) for prolonged periods.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Must be able to move about the Museum campus.
