Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and meticulous Embedded IoT QA Engineer (Manual Testing) to join our QA team. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience in manual testing of embedded systems, IoT devices, and connected solutions involving firmware, hardware, mobile applications, and cloud components. You will play a key role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality, reliable, and robust IoT products.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Test Planning & Documentation
- Understand product requirements, system architecture, and use cases for embedded IoT systems.
- Create detailed test plans, test scenarios, and test cases based on specifications and design documents.
- Document test results, report bugs, and maintain QA documentation using tools like TestRail or similar.
2. Manual Testing Execution
- Perform end-to-end testing of embedded IoT systems: hardware (MCUs/sensors), firmware, mobile app (Android/iOS), and cloud.
- Validate firmware functionality, communication protocols, and hardware interfaces (GPIO, UART, I2C, SPI).
- Test sensor integration, device status indicators, and power management features (battery/power supply).
3. Communication & Protocol Testing
- Validate device connectivity and communication protocols: Bluetooth, BLE, Wi-Fi, Zigbee, LoRa, MQTT, HTTP/HTTPS, etc.
- Perform range, latency, packet loss, and reconnection tests using tools like Docklight, Tera Term, or Serial Monitor.
4. Mobile & Cloud Integration Testing
- Test interaction between devices and mobile apps via BLE/Wi-Fi and validate device control, data sync, and notifications.
- Validate data transmission between device and backend/cloud platforms.
- Use tools like API validation on swagger.
5. Issue Reporting & Collaboration
- Log detailed defects with logs and reproduction steps in tools like JIRA.
Work closely with Firmware, Hardware, App, and Cloud development teams to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
6. Test Lab Management
- Set up and maintain test environments including test jigs, hardware interfaces, simulation tools, and firmware flashing tools.
- Perform testing on multiple hardware revisions, firmware versions, and operating conditions.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Diploma in Electronics and communication.
- 2 - 3 years of experience in manual QA testing of embedded systems / IoT products.
- Strong understanding of embedded hardware, firmware, and microcontroller-based systems.
- Experience with serial communication, debugging logs, and hardware signal analysis.
- Experience in mobile app (Android/iOS) and cloud interaction testing.
- Strong troubleshooting and defect isolation skills.
- Ability to read technical documents, circuit diagrams, and logs to validate system behaviour.
- Proficient in using tools such as Docklight, Putty, Swagger/ Postman, JIRA, etc.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Exposure to test automation frameworks (Python, Robot Framework, etc.) is a plus.
- Experience with Over-the-Air (OTA) firmware upgrade testing.
- Knowledge of compliance testing (EMI/EMC, CE, FCC) is advantageous.
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies.
