The Position
Environmental Scientists perform program research, planning and development, permitting, compliance monitoring, inspections/enforcement, and technical support services in relation to air, water, waste, federal facilities, corrective action, mining, biology and other environmental programs.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
The position is in the Reclamation Branch within the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection's Bureau of Mining Regulation and Reclamation. The Reclamation Branch performs reviews of Exploration and Mine Plans of Operations, Reclamation Plans and reclamation cost estimate submittals to determine if a project's affected land will meet the 519A regulatory requirement for a productive post mining land use. Upon approval, a Reclamation Permit and a financial assurance determination is issued to the operator to post a surety bond in coordination with the State or Federal agencies. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the physical, natural resource or life sciences, engineering or closely related field and three years of professional environmental experience which involved environmental program research and planning; OR graduation from high school or equivalent and five years of professional environmental experience as described above; OR one year of experience as an Environmental Scientist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
This position has a 25% travel requirement.
A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
