Job Purpose:


  • Responsible for managing all topics related to Project Environmental, Social and Sustainability programs, and/or Company E&S programs applicable for the Project
  • Responsible for overseeing, monitoring and continuously improving the environmental and social compliance of project with respect to Company and applicable local and international requirements


Job Responsibilities:


  • Contributes to the development of Environmental and Social KPIs and provides technical expertise to support in their implementation.
  • Collection, review, and input of environmental performance data into the company reporting tool for validation by the Head of Environment
  • Coordinates the assessment of environmental risks and hazards (ENVID’s, Environmental Aspects, DQRA etc.)
  • Development and maintenance of Project Environmental Risk/Aspects Registers and relevant EMS documentation
  • Working closely and supporting operations to calculate environmental emissions, discharges, energy consumption etc for annual data submissions
  • Develops, implements and monitors Environmental & Social Action Plans based on recommendations from ESHIA plus other assessments and studies. E.g., Biodiversity & Ecosystem Services Action Plans; Waste management programs; Carbon Footprint Reduction programs; water use reduction programs,
  • Plan, co-ordinate and perform Environmental inspections and compliance audits of all work locations and activities.
  • Develop Project E&S documents (such as: Environmental, Waste, Water & Grievance management plans, mapping of Stakeholders or Stakeholder Engagement plan, etc.)
  • Review and approve main E&S documents provided by Contractors
  • Develop and deliver training and awareness campaigns on key Environmental Aspects
  • Forms an important enabler for sustainable topics as management of water resources across all GGIP and affiliate activities
  • Liaises and supports the societal team on relevant CSR and sustainability matters
  • Ensures full compliance with Iraq environment-related licensing obligations and recognized environmental standards, protocols and conventions (UN, WHO, IFC, etc.)
  • Work with industrial hygiene colleagues in the implementation of the Chemical Management Plan
  • Closely monitor environmental performance (leading and lagging indicators) vs objectives and reports to management
  • Working with Field Operations and relevant contractors and suppliers to ensure and maintain effective oil spill response capabilities.
  • Supports investigation of environmental incidents as required
  • Respond to and support emergency response activities by providing technical support on environmental matters.
  • Monitor regularly and control good implementation of all mitigation measures (avoid-reduce-compensate) by Contractors and Sub-contractors, in collaboration with Project staff on site,
  • Manage Project E&S reporting
  • Work closely with Project HSE Team to manage Environmental, Social and Sustainable events


Qualifications and Experience:


  • Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline, i.e. engineering or scientific subject preferably environmental engineering, or environmental related.
  • Demonstrable environmental experience of 10 years’ including knowledge on project engineering, construction, commissioning onshore.
  • Good understanding of ENV policies and strategies, ENV Management Systems and Risks & Middle East country Legal Framework
  • Experience in incident investigation.
  • Experience with other major IOCs in large oil and gas construction projects
  • Understanding of oil and gas production equipment, processes, and utility systems
  • Experience reviewing and commenting on Contractor design / construction phase ENV plans and related documents.
  • Good knowledge of qualitative and quantitative risk assessments techniques.
  • Good knowledge of ENV legislation and international standards, including IOGP standards, onshore plant standards, ISO and Company referential framework (Rules, Specifications, Guides)
  • Autonomy and previous experience in working transversally.
  • Ability to work on his/her own initiative but functions as an integral part of team.
  • Highly proficient in spoken and written English.
