The department is especially interested in candidates with experience in school leadership as a division head, head of school, or principal at a charter, traditional public, or independent secondary school. Previous experience as a classroom teacher is strongly preferred.

University High School’s Executive Director (ED) assumes full and primary responsibility for ensuring the mission and vision of UHS is realized every day. The ED works in partnership with faculty, staff, students, families, and university & community partners, to oversee and shape the school’s program and quality of life of the school community. The ED is responsible for the effective coordination of efforts between University Middle, University High, and the University of Memphis, building relationships, solving problems, and balancing the interests and needs of many stakeholders. The ED is an advocate for the UHS student, consistently creating an equitable experience for students, faculty, and staff and making decisions in service of the collective community and the individual. The ED attracts, retains, and develops exceptional faculty and staff, by developing a strong student and staff culture and urgently and effectively addressing any breaches within the community. The ED responsibly manages the financial and physical resources of the school, under supervision of the Associate Vice President of Educational Initiatives and in partnership with the University of Memphis. The ED leads with entrepreneurial spirit and motivation to expand opportunities and connections for students; develops and refines a clear vision for academic success that prepares students for college & career, and remains nimble in their planning and decision-making.
