Primary Purpose

To design, build, and maintain Power BI reporting and analytics solutions that provide clear, actionable insight across internal operational systems, finance, sales & marketing, and timesheet data. Working on top of the central cloud data warehouse, the role turns trusted data into self‑service dashboards, reports, and analysis that drive better decision‑making for internal teams and clients.

Main Responsibilities:

Technology

  • Work with business stakeholders (Finance, Sales, Marketing, Operations, HR/Resourcing) to understand reporting and analytics needs and translate them into robust Power BI solutions.
  • Design and build semantic models and datasets in Power BI (including star schemas, dimensions, and facts) based on the central Snowflake data warehouse.
  • Develop and maintain DAX measures, calculated columns, and metrics to support KPIs, trend analysis, and self‑service exploration.
  • Build highly usable, visually clear, dashboards and paginated reports in adherence to brand guidelines.
  • Define and own the publishing and change management in the Power BI Service.
  • Implement and maintain row‑level security(RLS), workspace structures, and app deployments to ensure appropriate access and a good end‑user experience.
  • Optimise report performance through efficient data modelling, aggregation strategies, query reduction, and refresh scheduling.
  • Work closely with Data Engineers / Data Warehouse Developers to refine data models, address data gaps, and improve data quality and lineage.
  • Integrate additional data sources where needed (e.g. Excel, CSV, APIs, cloud applications) while ensuring they are aligned with core data models and governance.
  • Create and maintain clear documentation for datasets, metrics, dashboards, and business definitions to support consistent usage across teams

Process, Quality and Information Security

  • Manage your own workload and ensure all committed work is completed within the iteration as per the item’s definition of done.
  • Ensure reports, datasets, and DAX logic are peer‑reviewed, tested, and validated against trusted sources (e.g. finance systems) before release.
  • Use version control and agreed DevOps practices (e.g. Git, branching, release pipelines) for Power BI assets, scripts, and supporting artefacts where applicable.
  • Follow Change and Release processes for promoting reports and datasets through environments (dev/test/prod), including CAB attendance where required.
  • Adhere to all Information Security and data protection policies, implementing security by design in all reporting solutions (e.g. secure handling of financial/PII data, access control, RLS).
  • Collaborate with IT Operations, Information Security, and Engineering teams to ensure Power BI infrastructure, gateways, and integrations are secure, resilient, and well supported.

Professional skills/ experience:

  • Proven experience as a Power BI Developer, BI Analyst, or similar reporting/analytics role.

  • Strong hands‑on experience with Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service (datasets, dataflows, workspaces, apps, RLS, gateway configuration).

  • Excellent data modelling skills (relational and dimensional), including building star/snowflake schemas and conformed dimensions for analytics.

  • Strong DAX skills and understanding of evaluation context, time intelligence, and performance optimisation.

  • Good working knowledge of SQL and experience consuming data from cloud data warehouses (ideally Snowflake) and/or data lakes.

  • Experience working with data from finance, sales & marketing, operations, or timesheet / resourcing systems is highly desirable.

  • Understanding of data quality, data governance, and master data concepts; comfortable challenging and reconciling numbers with business teams.

  • Familiarity with a major cloud platform (Azure, AWS or GCP) and modern DevOps practices is a plus.

  • Experience with other analytics tools (e.g. Excel, SQL-based reporting, other BI platforms) beneficial but not essential.

Personal Qualities

  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills; able to interpret business questions and turn them into clear dashboards and metrics.

  • Great with people – able to build trust and rapport across Finance, Sales, Marketing, Operations, IT and Engineering teams.

  • Confident communicator who can explain metrics, calculations, and data limitations to non‑technical stakeholders.

  • Team player with a collaborative, flexible, “can‑do” attitude.

  • Able to prioritise effectively, manage multiple reporting demands, and handle pressure during key reporting cycles (e.g. month‑end, board packs).

  • High attention to detail with a strong focus on accuracy, consistency, and usability of reports.
