We’re hiring a GIS Technician to join our Carlsbad, NM office and provide mapping and spatial support for environmental consulting projects. You will work closely with project managers, scientists, and engineers to develop clear, accurate maps and datasets that inform project decisions and client reporting. Responsibilities

As a GIS Technician at Ensolum, your day-to-day responsibilities will typically include:

  • Producing high quality maps, figures, and graphics using ArcGIS Pro based on project requirements and internal templates.
  • Performing routine spatial data preparation and editing, including projections, attribute updates, basic topology checks, and organization of geodatabases.
  • Executing standard geoprocessing tools such as buffer, clip, intersect, dissolve, spatial join, and select by attributes.
  • Preparing and managing project-specific data, including importing survey files, digitizing features, and updating datasets from field or external sources.
  • Creating and maintaining simple map layouts for reports, proposals, and presentations.
  • Assisting with basic spatial analysis tasks such as distance measurements, proximity analysis, and simple overlay operations.
  • Maintaining data integrity and documentation for recurring GIS tasks and workflows.
  • Supporting project managers and scientists by responding to drafting requests in a timely manner.
  • Uploading and managing spatial datasets within ArcGIS Online and creating simple web maps when needed.
  • Following Ensolum’s quality standards for GIS deliverables and participating in internal peer reviews.
  • Communicating status updates, data needs, and potential issues to senior GIS staff.
  • Contributing to team culture by collaborating effectively and practicing strong attention to detail.

Qualifications

We’re always looking for people who are self-motivated, learning-oriented, and client-centric. And to be considered for this role at Ensolum, you’ll also need a few more qualification requirements:

  • AS in Environmental Science, Engineering Technology, Geography or related field, technical certificate, or coursework in GIS
  • 1 year of experience using ArcGIS Pro is preferred, but recent graduates with strong GIS coursework will be considered.
  • Ability to work at a computer for extended periods.
  • Occasional field support or data collection may be required depending on project needs.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced consulting environment.
  • Safety awareness and understanding of safe work practices
  • Valid driver's license and safe driving record
  • Able to pass drug & alcohol screening and background check

Exact pay within the posted pay range depends on qualifications and experience.
