Group Teacher (School Age Programs)

The Wolk Children’s Center at the JCC of Greater Rochester is seeking professional and qualified candidates for the position of Group Teacher within our School Age Program. This role is responsible for supervising and leading a group of children in grades K–5 in a structured, safe, and enriching environment. The Group Teacher will plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities that promote social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth. Candidates must demonstrate professionalism, sound judgment, strong communication skills, and a commitment to child development and safety.

Schedule Requirements

• Part-time
• Regular schedule is typically 1:30 PM to 6:00 PM, with earlier start times for half days and full-day availability during school vacations

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Plan and implement engaging, developmentally appropriate activities for school-age children
• Supervise children at all times to ensure safety and adherence to program policies
• Cultivate a positive, inclusive, and respectful classroom and group environment
• Promote children’s social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development
• Implement positive behavior management strategies
• Maintain accurate attendance records, incident reports, and required documentation
• Ensure safe arrival and departure procedures
• Collaborate with program staff, families, and administrators to support a cohesive and professional learning environment
• Attend required trainings, meetings, and professional development sessions
• Comply with all OCFS licensing regulations and promptly report concerns or suspected violations

Physical Demands

• Ability to actively supervise and interact with children in indoor and outdoor environments
• Ability to lift up to 15 lbs frequently and 50 lbs occasionally
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, squat, kneel, and sit on child-sized furniture for extended periods
• Ambulatory ability to move across playgrounds, fields, and recreational facilities

Work Environment

• Indoor classroom and multipurpose facilities
• Outdoor play spaces and athletic fields
• Gymnasium and pool, where applicable
• Exposure to varying weather conditions during outdoor programming

Education and Experience Requirements

• Associate’s degree in Child Development, Elementary Education, Physical Education, Recreation, or a related field or High School Diploma or equivalent and two years of direct experience working with children under 13 years of age
• Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications preferred
