Summary

The Department of Pediatrics is currently seeking an Assistant Professor (Hospitalist on Pediatric Hematology-Oncology).


Scope of practice:

  • This position is open to both Pediatric Hematology-Oncology fellowship trained, or General Pediatric/Internal Medicine-Pediatric residency trained physicians. No hematology-oncology specific training is required for the residency-trained applicant. Training will be provided after hiring.
  • Residency trained applicants do not need to have Hospital Medicine fellowship training- they may be hired directly out of residency.
  • Both types of applicants will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to manage inpatient care of Hematology/Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplant patients. They will attend to patient's medical needs on admitted inpatients as well as assist with new admissions.
  • Based on their training, applicants can oversee junior level personnel including fellows, residents and advanced practice practitioners and can be involved in education.

Roles include

  • Approximately 8 weeks of in-house night coverage per year.
  • Fellowship trained physicians:
  • Attending on the inpatient (daytime) service teams within the faculty attending rotation.
  • Assigned days performing bone marrow aspirate/biopsies and lumbar punctures as part of our Procedure Team.
  • Other clinical duties are possible based on service needs and/or individual interest.
  • Efforts will be made to align clinical duties to areas in which the candidate has clinical and/or research interest.
  • Residency trained physicians:
    • Daytime assignments will be in a frontline practitioner role on Hematology-Oncology or Bone Marrow Transplant teams.
    • Other daytime possibilities that can be discussed include time on the Procedure Team or working in our Urgent Care clinic- training would be provided for both.
    • Time is built into the schedule to allow for work on scholarly activity or personal projects.

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD or equivalent degree
  • Board certified or board eligible for either Pediatric Hematology-Oncology or General
  • Pediatric/Internal Medicine-Pediatric boards
  • Prior to employment start date must obtain Texas Medical License and Drug Enforcement
  • Administration registered by the Texas Medical Board
