The HSE Officer is responsible for ensuring that the workplace meets all safety and environmental standards. The role involves monitoring compliance, conducting inspections, providing training, and supporting management in creating a safe and hazard-free work environment.
Key Responsibilities1. Compliance & Monitoring
- Ensure compliance with local, federal, and company HSE regulations, policies, and standards.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits of work areas, tools, machinery, and safety equipment.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry best practices and legal requirements.
2. Risk Management
- Identify potential hazards, assess risks, and implement appropriate control measures.
- Monitor corrective and preventive actions to ensure closure of identified risks.
- Conduct accident and incident investigations, prepare reports, and recommend corrective actions.
3. Training & Awareness
- Provide HSE induction to new employees.
- Conduct periodic safety training, toolbox talks, and emergency preparedness drills.
- Promote a strong safety culture by engaging staff in safety initiatives.
4. Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare and maintain HSE records, inspection reports, incident logs, and compliance documentation.
- Report safety issues, incidents, and near-misses to management promptly.
- Ensure availability of updated MSDS, risk assessments, and emergency response plans.
5. Emergency Preparedness
- Ensure that emergency response procedures, fire safety systems, and equipment are in place and functioning.
- Coordinate with external authorities during emergencies or inspections when required.
6. Environmental Management
- Monitor waste disposal practices and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
- Promote initiatives related to energy conservation, pollution control, and sustainability.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in HSE, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field.
- NEBOSH/OSHA/IOSH certification (required or preferred depending on the company).
- Minimum 1–3 years experience in HSE or a similar role.
- Strong understanding of workplace safety regulations and risk management practices.
- Excellent communication, reporting, and observation skills.
- Ability to respond effectively in emergency situations.
