The specialist shall meet the following qualifications:

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree.
  • Hold a current Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification through NSCA.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in physical training, anatomy and physiology, kinesiology, biomechanics, motor skill development, fitness assessment, exercise prescription, behavior change, exercise physiology, nutrition, cardiovascular health, and risk management.
  • Experience applying adult learning principles to conduct or assist in delivering established courses in the field of health and physical fitness for law enforcement professionals.
  • Working knowledge of instructional techniques and communication strategies to encourage class participation and support a positive learning experience.
  • Knowledge of a variety of instructional methods and principles to direct students in a full range of learning experiences, and analytical ability to maintain and improve course content.
  • Have functional knowledge to operate and administer education and training through a cell phone application that includes all pillars of human performance, including physical training, nutrition, and mental performance skills.
  • Experience in the field of physical training to evaluate and improve DEA physical training courses.
  • Expert ability to perform body composition analysis to determine body fat percentages, body fat mass, and skeletal muscle mass; perform hand dynamometer grip strength test, leg length measurements, knee to wall test, Y-balance test, hand tap test, and single leg lunge test to determine injury vulnerability and capacity; and administer surveys to determine overall health, quality of life, nutritional habits, stress levels, and sleep hygiene.
  • Have resources available to them in the areas of physical fitness as well as throughout the law enforcement community to increase the practical value of course material.
  • Be capable of operating independently or collectively in a high-paced environment.
  • Possess a state driver’s license that meets Real ID requirements, or a U.S. passport as required by the Transportation Security Administration to travel CONUS.
