Calvary University is seeking an enthusiastic, ministry-minded professional to serve as our Human Resources Generalist. Calvary’s mission is to “…prepare Christians for life and service in the church and in the world according to a Biblical worldview…” and employees seek to integrate the day-to-day operations of each University department with this mission.

Job Title: Human Resources Generalist

Reports To: Chief Financial Officer

FLSA Status: Full-time, Exempt

Salary Range: $40,000 to $45,000

Job Summary

The Human Resources Generalist independently performs all day-to-day human resources and payroll functions for the University. This one-person role is responsible for personally carrying out every aspect of HR operations, including onboarding and retention, developing and implementing HR policies that reflect the University’s mission and values, staff training, employee relations, and compliance with employment laws. The HR Generalist also personally processes payroll, administers benefits and compensation programs, maintains personnel records, and supports initiatives that advance the University’s mission and values.

Key Responsibilities

· Develop and implement HR strategies that align with the University’s mission, values, and goals.

· Serve as a trusted advisor to employees on HR policies, procedures, and benefits.

· Investigate and resolve employee complaints and concerns promptly and fairly.

· Support the hiring process by developing job descriptions, posting openings, conducting background checks, and providing guidance and training to supervisors on compliant interview practices.

· Manage a comprehensive onboarding program and coordinate/perform new employee orientations.

· Administer benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plan, and other offerings.

· Conduct compensation reviews to ensure equity and fairness.

· Ensure compliance with federal and state employment laws, EEO regulations, and workers’ compensation requirements across multiple states.

· Maintain accurate employee records, performance evaluations, and personnel actions.

· Process payroll twice monthly and handle related administrative tasks.

· Coordinate annual employee Years of Service awards.

· Facilitate clear communication among employees, departments, and leadership.

· Chair the Employee Handbook Committee and serve on other committees as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

· Agreement with the University’s Statement of Faith, which expresses the core of our mission and values.

· Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.

· Strong understanding of Christian higher education and ability to integrate biblical principles into HR practices.

· Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.

· Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask effectively.

· Proficiency in interpreting and applying complex legal and regulatory requirements.

· Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

· Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred

· Minimum of 5 years of experience in an HR role (e.g., recruitment, benefits administration).

· Master’s degree and/or professional HR certifications (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR).

· Strong knowledge of employment laws and HR compliance practices.

· Experience with HRIS and payroll systems.
