Job Overview
The Director of Human Resources (HR) oversees all aspects of employee relations, recruitment, benefits administration, training, and compliance for the Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) and Assisted Living Facility (ALF). This role ensures that HR functions support the organization’s mission to provide high-quality resident care while maintaining compliance with state, federal, and organizational standards. The Director of HR serves as a strategic partner to leadership, promotes employee engagement, and fosters a professional, supportive workplace culture. Must have 3 years minimum HR experience working in a skilled nursing facility.
Responsibilities
Recruitment & Staffing
- Develop and manage effective recruitment and retention strategies to ensure staffing levels meet state and federal requirements.
- Oversee job postings, candidate screening, interviews, and onboarding processes.
- Communicate all new onboarding orientees via email to the Administrator(s) and/or designated leadership (i.e., Assistant Admin, Director of Staff Development, Director of Nursing) prior to scheduling orientation.
- Provide weekly structured reports to the Administrator(s) on hires, terminations, background checks, and offer letters.
Employee Relations & Disciplinary Process
- Investigate all employee write-ups before review and approval by the Administrator(s), or designated leadership in the absence of Administrator.
- Serve as a neutral, professional resource in employee relations matters, ensuring proper documentation and compliance.
- HR serves as an advisory resource to Administrator(s) regarding policy enforcement and does not deliver disciplinary actions (verbal, written, or otherwise) directly to staff. All disciplinary actions are carried out in the presence of a supervisor and/or Administrator.
Timekeeping and Daily Reporting
- Run daily reports for overtime (OT), double time (DT), and missed meals; reports will be delivered to the Administrator(s).
Benefits Administration & Payroll Coordination
- Manage employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and leave accruals.
- Provide accurate benefits information to [Finance/Administration/Payroll Department] to ensure proper payroll deductions.
- Audit benefit enrollments, changes, and deductions for accuracy.
- Support employees in understanding and accessing their benefits.
Compliance & Policy Management
- Ensure compliance with all state and federal employment laws (e.g., FMLA, ADA, OSHA, CMS regulations).
- Maintain complete and up-to-date personnel files in compliance with labor regulations.
- Monitor attendance, call-offs, and leave compliance.
- All call-offs must be directly reported to the Administrator(s) or designated leadership (in the Administrator’s absence.
- Call-off signage must be signed and dated by the Administrator(s) or DON on the first day the employee returns from sick leave.
- HR staff must clock in and out daily, with exceptions only for designated breaks and lunch.
- Develop, update, and implement HR policies and procedures, including the Employee Handbook.
- Oversee benefits audits, compliance reviews, and other HR-related audits.
Training & Development
- Coordinate mandatory in-service training and professional development opportunities.
- Provide coaching and guidance to supervisors on employee evaluations and HR best practices.
Organizational Support & Initiatives
- Work closely with the Administrator(s) to support and enforce organizational initiatives, ensuring alignment between HR practices and facility goals.
- Provide advance notice of all vacation requests (minimum 2 weeks) to the Administrator(s) for approval.
- Actively participate in leadership meetings, strategic planning sessions, and facility-wide improvement projects
Pay: $83,200.00 - $99,840.00 per year
