Job Description

Step into a high-acuity ICU RN travel contract with a dynamic and fast-paced Intensive Care environment in Bakersfield, CA. This is an exciting opportunity for experienced critical care nurses who thrive under pressure, excel with complex patients, and want to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.

You’ll be caring for some of the sickest patients in the region, from respiratory failure to post-cardiac surgery recovery. If you’re a confident ICU RN looking for a contract that sharpens your skills and elevates your experience, this assignment is a strong match.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional bedside care to critically ill patients in a 24–32 bed ICU
  • Manage ventilators, vasoactive drips, sedations, post-op cardiac patients, Impella, and advanced neuro cases
  • Interpret EKGs; pass an EKG competency exam during orientation
  • Respond to rapid responses along with charge and resource nurses
  • Participate in multidisciplinary rounds
  • Maintain accurate documentation within Cerner EMR
  • Float to any Med-Surg/Tele unit as needed (travelers float first)
  • Follow all unit protocols, safety standards, and infection control policies
  • Communicate effectively with intensivists, physicians, RTs, pharmacy, and interdisciplinary teams

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of recent ICU experience
  • No first-time travelers
  • Strong background in high-acuity ICU settings
  • Comfortable managing cardiac and vasoactive drips
  • Must be willing to float
  • Neuro experience preferred but not required

Education

  • ADN or BSN from an accredited nursing school

Required Certifications

  • BLS
  • ACLS
  • NIHSS

Knowledge & Skills

  • Proficiency with Cerner EMR
  • Strong critical thinking and prioritization abilities
  • Ability to remain calm and organized in intense situations
  • Comfort caring for complex cases (respiratory failure, sepsis, post-cardiac surgery, ARDS, strokes, GI bleeds, TAVR, CABG recoveries, etc.)
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to float to MedSurg/Tele units confidently
