Overview

Job Responsibilities
The Golisano Institute for Developmental Disability Nursing teaches nurses how to work with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We develop education for nursing students, practicing nurses, and nursing leaders.
We are looking for a person who knows what it is like to live with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) to join our team as an Inclusion Specialist. This part-time role is important because we want our education to match what people with IDD really care about. Your voice helps us do that.

What You’ll Do:
Help Create Educational Content
  • Talk about your life and what matters to you.
  • Help us choose topics that are important to people with IDD.
  • Ask other self-advocates what they think.
  • Tell your story in a training session.
  • Tell us what you think about our videos and lessons.
  • Speak up in meetings.

Help Promote Our Work
  • Help us write messages for social media.
  • Help us choose words and pictures that get nurses’ attention.
  • Share ideas like, “I wish my nurse knew…” to help others understand.
  • Help us explain why nurses should learn this information.

Help with Office Tasks
  • Use a computer to enter information.
  • Help organize files.
  • Help prepare materials for events.


Education / Experience
  • Knowing what it is like to live with IDD
  • Speaking up for yourself and others
  • Experience mentoring others with IDD.
  • Experience promoting inclusion of people with IDD.

Competencies / Skills
  • Able to share your thoughts and feelings
  • Comfortable talking in meetings with others
  • Can use a computer or willing to learn
  • Wanting things to be fair for everyone.
