Qualifications & Experience
- Education: GNM or Post-Basic/Basic B.Sc. Nursing; additional certification in infection control is preferred.
- Experience: Typically 2–5 years of clinical nursing experience; prior exposure to infection control policy compliance or surveillance.
- Preferences: Experience in NABH-accredited settings or exposure to quality standards is a plus.
Key Responsibilities
Surveillance, Monitoring & Reporting
- Conduct regular hospital rounds across wards—including OT, ICU, CSSD, OPD, labs—to monitor adherence to infection control protocols.
- Collect and tabulate data on hospital-acquired infections (HAI): including patient details, admission and onset dates, infection types, culture results, and antibiotics administered.
- Analyze trends, maintain departmental statistics (e.g. MRSA, ESBL), and prepare surveillance reports.
- Respond promptly to outbreaks by identifying sources and coordinating containment measures with relevant departments.
Infection Prevention & Protocol Compliance
- Oversee implementation of infection control protocols: isolation, hand hygiene, disinfection, terminal cleaning, IV line care, PPE usage.
- Conduct audits—e.g., hand hygiene compliance, correct use of disinfectants, biomedical waste management—and report findings.
Training, Education & Coordination
- Lead education sessions and training programs for nursing, housekeeping, and support staff on infection control standards and practices.
- Orient new staff to hospital infection prevention protocols and participate in committee meetings and workshops.
- Coordinate with microbiologists, sterile supply managers, waste handlers, and external agencies to ensure safe practices.
Vaccination & Post-Exposure Management
- Ensure all hospital staff receive necessary vaccinations (e.g., Hepatitis B, flu); manage needle-stick injuries and related post-exposure responses.
