Interior Design + Drafting Intern

Role Overview

We are looking for a motivated, detail-oriented student or recent graduate to join our team as an Interior Design & Drafting Intern. Unlike a traditional design firm role, this position puts you in the thick of the building process. You will assist in translating design visions into "buildable" reality, managing material selections, and ensuring that our residential projects are executed with aesthetic and functional precision. We view this internship as a pipeline for our team; exceptional performers will be considered for a full-time position upon completion of the 10-week program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Selection Coordination: Organize and track client selections (plumbing fixtures, tile, lighting, hardware) and ensure they align with project timelines.
  • Drafting & Visualization: Assist in creating or updating plans using Chief Architect, similar software to Revit.
  • Project Documentation: Maintain selection schedules for active projects to ensure subcontractors have the most current design information.
  • On-Site Support: Visit job sites to verify field measurements, check material deliveries against orders, and assist with "punch list" walkthroughs.
  • Vendor Liaison: Communicate with showrooms and vendors to request quotes, check lead times, and pick up samples.
  • Final Styling: Assist in the staging and "photo-ready" prep for completed projects.

Qualifications

  • Education: Currently enrolled in (or recently graduated from) an accredited Interior Design or Architecture program. CIDA accredited program preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Chief Architect or Revit required. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite and Canva is a plus.
  • The "Builder" Mindset: A strong interest in the technical side of design—understanding how things are actually put together.
  • Communication: Ability to speak about design decisions and selections to clients and the construction of it to subcontractors.
  • Logistics: Must have reliable transportation for travel between the office, showrooms, and active job sites.

Physical Requirements & Environment

  • Must be comfortable working in a professional office setting and on active construction sites (which may involve dust, noise, and varying temperatures).
  • Ability to lift and carry tile samples, rug swatches, and small decor items.
