Minimum of 18 years old. High school diploma or GED, criminal justice studies preferred but not required; one year of security work, law enforcement or related experience in the military; or an equivalent combination or training and experience required. Good oral/written communication and interpersonal skills, organizational skills, ability to read, walk or stand for several hours at a time, and must be able to differentiate shapes and colors on a monitor. Working knowledge of Sheriff 's Office Policies and Procedures and Federal, State, and Local Laws, Policies, and Procedures. Ability to alert law enforcement personnel to physical altercations/resisting arrest episodes, etc.
Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, records must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months.
Pre-employment drug testing, extensive FBI criminal background check to include polygraph examination, and education/degree verification required.
This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's "Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy" and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent criminal background check.
This position is considered Critical Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing. The use of medical marijuana for this position is prohibited.PLEASE NOTE: This is a full-time day/night shift position working in a secured jail facility, approximately 40 hours per week to include weekends and holidays.
Ensure a safe and secure environment for all staff and inmates within the jail facility by maintaining a high degree of vigilance towards monitoring inmate activity, managing entry/exit points, and maintaining accountability of all inmates and supplies. Monitor all security/radio traffic activities. Monitor and respond accordingly to all inmate activity. Maintain accurate headcount of all assigned inmates. Receive and respond to internal and external phone calls. Account for all security/safety equipment. Perform other work as required.
7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m., to include weekends and holidays
