General Overview
A Journeyman Electrician is responsible for safely and accurately installing, repairing, and maintaining electrical systems across commercial projects. This includes installing raceways and cable systems, pulling wire, mounting, and terminating equipment, and delivering high-quality finished electrical work such as lighting, devices, and fixtures. Journeymen are also expected to provide guidance and training to apprentices, lead small crews when assigned, and help ensure work is completed efficiently, correctly, and in compliance with code and company expectations.
Responsibilities
- Maintain full compliance with OSHA, Carlton Electric, and customer safety requirements and policies.
- Perform all work with a focus on safety, quality, efficiency, and professionalism.
- Execute skilled tasks related to installing, maintaining, and repairing a wide range of electrical systems and equipment.
- Properly use and maintain hand tools, power tools, jobsite equipment, and required PPE.
- Train and guide apprentices in the safe and proper use of tools, equipment, and installation methods.
- Maintain tools, equipment, parts, and materials in clean, organized working order.
- Demonstrate working knowledge of special systems, including lighting controls and fire alarm systems.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications using Bluebeam or other digital platforms.
- Apply working knowledge of circuitry, electrical theory, and the National Electrical Code (NEC).
- Bend, install, and support conduit systems.
- Perform trenching and installation of underground electrical systems.
- Pull wire and cable according to project requirements and industry standards.
- Troubleshoot wiring, components, and equipment issues based on experience and skill level.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must possess a valid Colorado Journeyman Electrician (JW) license.
- Must demonstrate strong professional communication and customer service skills, both verbal and written.
- Must be able to pass a drug screen at any time.
- Must be able to pass a background check.
- Must be self-motivated, teachable, punctual, respectful, and able to follow direction; demonstrates the qualities of an ideal team player.
- Must have personal hand tools and required power tools necessary for commercial electrical work.
- Proficiency with digital construction tools preferred; experience with Bluebeam is a plus.
- Ability to lead, mentor, and train apprentices as needed.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and electrical diagrams.
- Strong understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
- Demonstrated competency in bending, installing, and supporting conduit systems.
- Working knowledge of special systems, including fire alarm, lighting controls, and low-voltage support as applicable.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
- Must have reliable transportation to and from various job sites in Colorado.
Physical Demands
- Sitting, standing, kneeling, walking for prolonged periods of time.
- Be able to walk at speeds of up to 3 miles per hour.
- Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling – up to 100 pounds.
- Ability to bend at waist, hips, and knees, maneuver on a ladder (3/4 legged and extension ladders) for a prolonged period.
- Must wear personal tools while working (tool harness, or belt, can weigh up to 50 lbs).
- Possess the ability to talk, hear, and see well either naturally or with correction.
- Possess the ability to focus and concentrate on a task for extended periods of time.
- Ability to maintain a calm and focused mental state, especially in high-pressure or emergency situations.
- Capacity to think clearly, rationally, and quickly when troubleshooting electrical systems or responding to unexpected issues.
- Capable of managing stress effectively, maintaining composure and focus throughout the workday.

Working Conditions
- Sometimes hot, cold, wet, muddy, humid, windy, and dry conditions depending on time of year.
- Must wear personal tools while working (tool harness, or belt).
- Ability to work from different heights such as on ladders and lifts.
- Potential to work in restricted areas such as manholes, utility tunnels, crawl spaces, trenches, attics, vaults, switchgear rooms and more.
- All employees must always wear Carlton Electric required PPE (gloves, glasses, hard hats, safety boots).
- Potential to work overtime and night shifts, sometimes on short notice.
- Must be okay with working in areas ranging but not limited to Colorado Springs to Fort Collins.
Compensation Package
Location: Denver Greater Metro Area/Front Range (Fort Collins to Colorado Springs)
Start Date: TBD
Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt
Schedule: Normal working hours of Monday-Friday 7AM – 3:30PM. This position may offer or require overtime, weekend, or holiday work. Working hours may change depending on season or project need.
Pay Rate: $33-$41 per hour, depending on experience.
- This pay rate is the good-faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of this job posting. Carlton Electric reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted rate if they believe the new range is determined in good-faith. Carlton Electric reserves the right to adjust compensation based on, but not limited to, approved factors such as seniority, merit, quantity and/or quality systems, location, education and/or training, and required travel.
