Junior VOIP Engineer (Onboarding & Support)

Role Overview


We are seeking a driven Junior VOIP Engineer to join our growing technical team. This role is ideal for someone with hands-on experience in FreeSWITCH who is looking to deepen their expertise in VoIP systems, contact center technologies, and real-time communications.

You will be responsible for supporting, maintaining, and assisting in the design of scalable voice infrastructure across our environments.


Key Responsibilities


  • Assist in the design, deployment, and support of FreeSWITCH-based VoIP systems


  • Configure and maintain dialplans, SIP profiles, gateways, and routing logic


  • Monitor system performance and ensure high availability


  • Troubleshoot call issues (call drops, one-way audio, latency, jitter, SIP errors)


  • Support IVR systems, call queues, and contact center workflows


  • Work with APIs and integrations (CRM systems, messaging platforms, third-party services)


  • Analyze logs, SIP traces, and CDRs to diagnose and resolve issues


  • Implement and maintain system security (fraud prevention, ACLs, firewall rules)


  • Collaborate with internal teams including developers, QA, and support


  • Document configurations, processes, and troubleshooting steps


Minimum Requirements


  • 2 years of hands-on experience with FreeSWITCH


  • Solid understanding of SIP, RTP, and VoIP fundamentals


  • Experience working with Linux (Ubuntu/CentOS)


  • Ability to configure dialplans (XML, Lua preferred)


  • Experience with SIP trunking and carrier integrations


  • Strong troubleshooting skills using tools like tcpdump and Wireshark


  • Basic networking knowledge (NAT, firewalls, routing)


Nice to Have


  • Experience with FusionPBX or other FreeSWITCH-based platforms


  • Knowledge of scripting (Lua, Python, Bash)


  • Familiarity with PostgreSQL or MySQL


  • Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, etc.)


  • Experience in contact center or dialer environments


  • Understanding of call recording and billing systems


  • Experience with Asterisk is advantageous but not required

Working Conditions


  • This is an in-office role based in Islamabad, Pakistan and Cape Town, South Africa


  • Collaboration across both locations will be required


  • May involve occasional after-hours support depending on system needs
