The Academy of Exceptional Learners, a program under Autism Consulting and Therapy (ACT), is seeking full-time K–2 Special Education Teachers to join our dedicated team in Virginia Beach.

At our Academy, we create a supportive and dynamic micro-school environment where children with autism and other developmental differences can thrive. Our mission is to combine therapeutic strategies with academic instruction to foster independence, confidence, and lifelong learning.

Who We Are
The Academy of Exceptional Learners is a therapeutic homeschool-style program serving kindergarten through 2nd grade students. Grounded in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), our classrooms are small, structured, and individualized. Each student receives one-on-one support from a trained ABA therapist, and classrooms are led by teachers who blend academic learning with adaptive, social, and emotional development.

Your Role
As a Lead Teacher, you will:

  • Lead a classroom of up to 8 students, each with full-time 1:1 ABA therapist support

  • Design and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate lessons aligned with Virginia Standards of Learning

  • Adapt curriculum and classroom routines to meet a range of communication styles, learning profiles, and behavior plans

  • Foster functional academics, social-emotional learning, and adaptive living skills

  • Collaborate with RBTs, BCBAs, and leadership to implement behavior support strategies and monitor progress

  • Maintain a structured, nurturing, and joyful classroom environment where every child can grow and succeed

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience, preferably in special education or a self-contained classroom

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Special Education licensure strongly preferred

  • Experience working with students with autism and developmental delays

  • Strong classroom management, lesson planning, and individualized instruction skills

  • Collaborative, flexible, and passionate about helping every child reach their full potential

Compensation
$50,000 Annually, based on experience and licensure
