LAUNDRY ASST UN - ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES

Under the direction of the Building Services Supervisor, the Laundry Assistant collects, sorts, and distributes laundry; washes laundry; and performs works related to maintaining a safe environment. Supports Hospital’s mission to provide the highest quality care by complying with regulatory guidelines, meeting agency standards, and obtaining appropriate certification.

JOB DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Prepare linen carts for daily distribution to the nursing units.
  • Pick up dirty linen from all units.
  • Distribute clean linen cart to each unit and retrieve empty linen carts.
  • Maintain cleanliness of laundry area; including but not limited to, sweeping floor, cleaning machines, sanitizing laundry bins, washing floor mats, dusting window sills and blinds.
  • Pick up personal clothing from all units, log on code FF, and close all bags.
  • Maintain resident spare clothing; cleaning cabinets, organizing clothing in a neat manner.
  • Distribute clean resident clothing to each resident room.
  • Operate label machine for personal clothing and maintain resident’s list on computer.
  • Remove, wash and replace privacy curtains following St Mary's frequency guidelines (e.g., quarterly, or immediately after a patient in isolation has been discharged).
  • Inspect curtains for damage and perform minor repairs (mesh replacement, tears, etc) as needed.
  • Maintain documentation of each curtain's laundry history to ensure timely cleaning and compliance with infection control schedules.
  • Remove lint from dryers daily and clean out washer drain as needed.
  • Monitor detergent levels and replace detergent container when necessary. Notify Supervisor/Director of needed laundry supplies and repairs.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Mend, hem and repair children’s clothing using sewing machine.
  • Performs other related duties as directed by supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE

Formal education required:

High School diploma or General Educational Development ( GED ) preferred.

Previous experience required:

Six months experience working in environmental care area or laundry in an institutional setting.
