Job Title: Law Student / Law Clerk
Position Type: Unpaid Internship

Introduction:
Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid (MMLA) is seeking a dedicated individual to join our dynamic team. If you’re ready to contribute your skills and compassion to meaningful work, we invite you to explore this exciting opportunity.

The successful candidate will work fully in the office during the training period to ensure comprehensive onboarding and integration into our processes. Upon completion of training, a hybrid work model will be offered, allowing for a mix of in-office and remote work.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support attorneys in the Minneapolis Housing Unit with casework, including litigation, research, and potential appellate work
  • Assist with policy and legislative projects as needed
  • Become a Certified Student Attorney to make appearances in Hennepin County Housing Court under attorney supervision

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with civil law procedures
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Ability to conduct legal research effectively
  • Handle emotionally charged situations with empathy and professionalism

Required Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite
  • Dedication to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion principles

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2L or 3L law student
  • Experience (work, volunteer, or lived) with diverse economic, social, rural, and/or cultural communities

Compensation:

  • This is an unpaid clerkship
