We are seeking a Lead-Based Paint Inspector (Part-Time / On-Call) to perform lead-based paint inspections and clearance examinations for residential and multifamily housing units. This role supports federal housing programs and assists communities in maintaining safe, healthy living environments.

Qualifications

  • Current certification as a Lead-Based Paint Inspector in the applicable state or region

  • Experience performing LBP inspections in residential or multifamily settings

  • Familiarity with HUD’s Lead Safe Housing Rule and HUD Guidelines for lead-based paint evaluation

  • Ability to operate XRF analyzers and follow approved sampling/testing protocols

  • Strong report writing, documentation, and field data accuracy

  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to assigned inspection sites

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with HUD, public housing authorities, or federally assisted housing programs

  • Clearance Examiner certification (if required or separate in your state)

  • Experience using digital field inspection tools or environmental reporting platforms

  • Additional related certifications (EPA RRP, Lead Abatement Worker/Supervisor)

Responsibilities

  • Perform Lead-Based Paint (LBP) inspections in accordance with HUD Guidelines, EPA rules, and state regulations

  • Use XRF analyzers or approved paint chip sampling methods to identify the presence of lead-based paint

  • Conduct visual assessments of paint conditions and verify compliance with HUD’s Lead Safe Housing Rule

  • Complete clearance examinations following stabilization or maintenance activities, including dust wipe sampling

  • Prepare accurate and detailed inspection reports, including testing results and clearance documentation

  • Maintain proper field notes, data logs, and chain-of-custody documentation

  • Communicate inspection findings clearly to property owners, contractors, and program staff

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs, enter attics/crawl spaces, and carry field equipment

  • Ability to kneel, crouch, and stand for extended periods during inspections

Compensation & Benefits

  • $30–$40/hour depending on experience and certification level

  • Part-Time / On-Call scheduling (work assigned as needed)

  • Mileage reimbursement or company vehicle (if applicable)
