A reputable manufacturing company in Sparta, WI is seeking a skilled CNC Lead Operator for its 3rd shift. This role is responsible for operating and setting up CNC machines, ensuring production quality, supporting other operators, and performing lead responsibilities within the Machine Shop. The CNC Lead Operator must demonstrate strong technical ability, leadership skills, and a commitment to safety and quality.
Key ResponsibilitiesOperate CNC machining centers, primarily milling aluminum components.
Run all types of CNC machines within the Machine Shop and support both production cells.
Assist CNC operators throughout the department, providing guidance and troubleshooting support.
Perform setups across multiple machine types and cells, including lathes, drillers, buffing robots, and universal cells.
Make tool adjustments, replace broken tools, and accurately enter offsets while documenting changes.
Perform quality inspections using calipers and other measurement tools; follow established quality procedures, including Red Card processes.
Operate and document production using scanning systems with accuracy and minimal errors.
Complete tool crib tasks such as tool replacement and inventory support.
Run specialty production, including crossbow component machining.
Act as backup for Cell Leads during absences.
Maintain a clean and organized work area.
Support other departments as needed and take part in training or educational programs as requested.
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Minimum of 6 months at each prior skill level or equivalent experience.
Strong mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity.
Ability to perform arithmetic calculations (fractions, decimals, percentages).
Proficient in reading and following verbal and written instructions.
Solid communication skills and a professional demeanor.
Demonstrated ability to manage time, solve problems, and adapt to shifting priorities.
Effective teamwork and relationship-building abilities.
Self-motivated with a strong commitment to accuracy and quality.
Ability to remain compliant with safety policies and production standards.
CNC machines, manual lathes, hand mills, band saws.
Air and hand ratchets, files, de-burring tools, functional gauges.
Forklift (occasional operation).
Production environment with exposure to noise, chemicals, solvents, and repetitive tasks.
Frequent standing, gripping small parts, and use of hand tools.
Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs regularly.
Requires near-, mid-, and far-range vision, color differentiation, and depth perception.
Regular interaction with department staff and occasional overtime as needed.
