The Lead Electrical Engineer leads high-complexity electromechanical projects across several product categories and serves as a technical reference within the organization. This role provides cross-functional guidance, establishes design strategies, and proactively identifies and resolves critical issues to ensure successful product development and delivery.
1. Architect the electrical subsystem for new platforms, defining interconnects and power domains.
2. Lead technical efforts across multiple development projects, ensuring alignment and reuse.
3. Develop and enforce best practices in design reviews, validation strategies, and risk mitigation.
4. Define advanced test strategies for functional, reliability, and environmental qualification.
5. Evaluate new technologies and propose integration paths for future product innovation.
6. Mentor cross-functional engineers on architecture tradeoffs and hardware/software co-design.
7. Serve as lead interface between product management and engineering for electrical concerns.
8. Establish standards for schematic symbol libraries and PCB layout practices.
9. Present design overviews and project updates to senior leadership and stakeholders.
10. Guide junior engineers in resolving difficult circuit and system-level issues.
11. Collaborate with supply chain to define long-term sourcing strategies for key components.
12. Support root cause investigations across development, manufacturing, and field service.
13. Implement robust margin analysis and design-for-reliability reviews during development.
14. Oversee agency certifications for electrical safety, EMC, and energy efficiency.
15. Standardize electrical documentation format and review workflows.
16. Lead advanced troubleshooting involving thermal, signal integrity, and power quality issues.
17. Ensure system compliance with industry standards such as ISO or IEC.
18. Develop and optimize electrical system cost models and design trade-off analysis.
19. Drive technical aspects of supplier selection and contract manufacturing readiness.
20. Align project resources with milestone deliverables and design gates.
21. Serve as key contributor to post-mortem and continuous improvement meetings.
22. Define modular design approaches for scalable and reusable architectures.
23. Perform other duties as required within the nature and level of work.
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering required, Master of Science in Electrical Engineering preferred from an ABET accredited institution or program with five (5) to seven (7) years of direct electrical work experience. Must have strong technical, analytical, planning, time management, organizational, and conflict resolution skills. Prior experience in the design of hand-held electronic products and rechargeable battery systems is preferred. Expertise in electrical engineering design principles and methodologies with a track record of leading circuit development, directing testing strategies, and interpreting complex test results. Experience with small rechargeable batteries (18650, Li-Po pouch, etc.) preferred and small rechargeable battery USB charging methodologies and designs a plus. Prior experience with AC/DC, DC/AC and DC/DC power electronics is preferred. Proficient with computers and software compilers such as C, C++, or similar is preferred. Must possess strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to present both technical analysis and financial based justifications allowing further decision making within all levels of the organization. Ability to function in an environment of constantly changing priorities, goals and direction often amid stressful conditions and under time constraints. Strong team focus and the ability to work with others, both internal and external to the organization. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint) is required.
