Fluidics Engineer
Development and implementation of advanced fluidic sub-systems for cutting-edge medical devices. This critical role requires a subject matter expert to independently drive and complete complex mechanical and fluidic designs from concept through production. You will utilize your expertise across all engineering phases, including CAD, prototyping, testing, and cross-functional production release.
Responsibilities:
- Complete conceptualized design solutions for mechanical and fluidics systems, meeting critical requirements and timelines
- Completes detailed engineering analysis of new and existing designs to verify robustness and design intent, with little or no oversight
- Produce and approve detailed drawings utilizing GD&T and engineering best practices
- Drive large complex engineering changes through the Siemens design change and release process
- Completes complex root cause analysis investigations
- Prepare prototypes for testing and provide technical assistance on design feasibility
- Collaborate with external vendors and suppliers to resolve technical design and manufacturing issues, ensuring quality and manufacturability
- Work closely with manufacturing and field service in the development of designs
- Conduct and approve prototype testing and laboratory best practices
- Completes drafting and design reviews with a cross functional team
- Perform all verification activities and document results for knowledge transfer
- Embraces simulation culture in all work activities, conducting or directing work in the discipline
- Ability to plan and forecast large work scopes within and outside of cross functional team
Knowledge/Skills, Education and Experience:
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
- 8-10+ years of industry experience in product design and development
- Experience with product development in an FDA regulated environment. Willing to consider other regulated industries.
- You have extensive design experience with fluidic hardware, including pumps, valves, manifold design, and flow/pressure sensors.
- You have a strong foundation in the first principles of fluid mechanics, including the governing equations, and a solid grasp of practical concepts like laminar flow, turbulent flow, pressure drop, and viscous effects.
- Proficiency with 3D CAD (preferably NX) to develop designs utilizing proper design intent
- Proficiency with PLM systems (preferably Teamcenter) and workflows
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook)
- Strong proficiency with GD&T best practices and ability to perform complex tolerance stackups
- Demonstrated ability to accurately forecast, plan, and manage large work scopes utilizing project management best practices and Agile frameworks (Scrum).
- FEA or CFD simulation skills or close working relationships needed
- Successfully conducted complex troubleshooting and root cause investigations
- Strong experience with manufacturing methods including machined, sheet metal, castings and plastic injection molding
- Strong written and oral communication skills
