Overview
The Legal Assistant provides administrative and clerical support to attorneys and staff within the Public Defender’s Office. This position plays a critical role in ensuring efficient case management and supporting the delivery of legal services to indigent clients.
Duties & Skills:
- Strong computer proficiency, including email systems and case management software.
- Ability to answer multi-line phones professionally and direct calls appropriately.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills when interacting with clients, attorneys, court personnel, and office staff.
- Experience drafting, proofreading, and formatting legal documents and correspondence.
- Ability to open, organize, maintain, and close legal case files accurately and efficiently.
- Knowledge of spreadsheet creation and data entry, including maintaining accurate records and reports.
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
- Experience uploading, scanning, filing, and managing electronic documents and records.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in all administrative and legal support duties.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced office environment.
- Customer service skills and the ability to interact respectfully with diverse populations.
Pay: From $32.99 per hour
