Job Description
Contract - 12 Months - Up to 48 hours Bi-weekly
Under the direction of the Manager, Customer Experience & Partnerships, the Library Assistant 1 assists the Circulation Services Department of the Newmarket Public Library in providing prompt courteous service including to ensure materials are organized and accessible, , ensure materials borrowed are returned to the library and that the library is compensated for replacement costs, maintain privacy of patron’s files, to present a positive image of the library to the public, and maintain harmonious relations with staff and the public.
Job Requirements

Formal academic education or courses at a secondary school graduate level in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge of word processing applications such as Microsoft Word.

Experience in a public library environment is an asset.

Excellent communication, interpersonal skills and customer service skills to interact with a diverse client.

Ability to operate general office equipment, such as photocopier, and telephone reception system.

Ability to lift and carry library materials and equipment up to 50 lbs approximately and to push and pull full book trucks which may involved bending and reaching.

Knowledge of cash handling procedures.

Ability to work as a team member and independently.

Working knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
