The Library Assistant is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the library by providing administrative assistance, organizing library materials, maintaining accurate records, and delivering high-quality customer service to students and staff. The role involves managing circulation activities, assisting users in accessing library resources, maintaining catalog systems, and ensuring that the library environment remains organized, efficient, and welcoming.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, customer-focused, and capable of handling multiple administrative and operational tasks in a professional environment.


Key Responsibilities:

Perform daily circulation tasks including issuing, renewing, reserving, and returning library materials.

Organize and shelve books, journals, archives, and multimedia resources according to classification systems.

Conduct regular inventory checks and assist in tracking lost or damaged materials.

Maintain accurate records of library transactions and member activities.

Ensure shelves, reading areas, and resource sections remain organized and accessible.

Assist students and staff in locating books, references, and digital resources.

Respond to inquiries regarding library services, policies, and available materials.

Provide professional assistance to patrons using computers, printers, databases, and online catalog systems.

Support users with membership registration and account updates.

Perform clerical duties such as filing, scanning, data entry, and document management.

Prepare reports related to circulation statistics, inventory, and library usage.

Maintain confidential records and ensure data accuracy.

Coordinate internal communications and assist with scheduling or event preparation.

Update and maintain library databases and catalog systems.

Label, classify, and process newly acquired materials.

Assist in archiving and preserving documents and reference materials.

Ensure compliance with library standards and organizational procedures.

Support educational programs, workshops, and library events when required.

Monitor library spaces to maintain a quiet and professional environment.

Assist supervisors and librarians with operational projects and special assignments.

Contribute to improving library efficiency and user experience.


Skills Requirements:

Strong organizational and administrative skills

Excellent communication and customer service abilities

High attention to detail and accuracy

Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently

Basic knowledge of cataloging and filing systems

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data entry systems

Familiarity with library management software is an advantage

Problem-solving and teamwork skills

Professional attitude and reliability


Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Library Science, Information Management, Business Administration, or a related field.

Previous experience in a library, administrative, or customer service role is preferred.

Experience with library systems and records management is an advantage
