Position Summary:
This position performs a variety of duties in support of the library including shelving library materials, processing new library cards, and checking books and materials in and out.
Schedule:
20 hours per week
Essential Job Functions:
- Greets visitors; answers telephone and e-mail requests; assists customers or refers to appropriate personnel.
- Assists patrons in the location, referral, and selection of materials and related information.
- Conducts circulation activities including charging and discharging materials, accepts payments for fines, lost and damaged items.
- Issues and renews library cards for patrons; ensures patrons’ accounts are accurate and up to date.
- Sorts books and audio-visual materials after they are checked in; loads items on carts and places in order before shelving.
- Shelves materials returned to or used within the library.
- Checks shelves for accuracy; shifts materials on shelves as needed.
- Straightens shelves.
- Empties book drop; sorts and discharges materials; and loads carts.
- Assists with closing duties; ensures all customers have exited library, picks up materials; straightens furniture.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Ability to communicate effectively with other members of the staff, supervisor, and the public.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both written and verbal form.
- Must be proficient in workplace English and spelling.
- Ability to read City policies and procedures; written instructions, general correspondence; SDS sheets, safety manuals, maps, etc.
Education, Experience, and Certifications:
- Must be at least 16 years of age.
