Assist the Media Services Coordinator in the administration of the campus library. Perform routine clerical duties under direct supervision.
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or GED
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Proficient keyboarding, file maintenance, and basic computer skills
Ability to independently operate and troubleshoot the media center automated circulation system (Follett Destiny)
Familiarity with district cataloging system and ability to organize and maintain a campus library collection
Experience with Accelerated Reader (AR), Star assessments, and related literacy platforms
Experience with research databases.
Effective communication, interpersonal, and classroom management skills
Ability to work independently, exercise professional judgment, and manage library operations without on-site supervision
Ability to plan and deliver library instruction lessons appropriate to student grade level and curriculum needs
Experience:
One year experience working with children
One year clerical experience
Prior experience in an Aide or Librarian setting preferred
- Independently manage all daily operations of the campus library during school hours, serving as the primary library professional on site.
- Establish and maintain an orderly, welcoming library environment that supports student learning and a love of reading.
- Open and close the library according to campus schedule; manage access, traffic flow, and daily routines.
- Coordinate scheduling of library classes, open library periods, and special projects with teachers and campus administration.
- Library Instruction and Program Support
- Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate library instruction lessons to individual students, small groups, and whole classes, including information literacy, research skills, digital citizenship, and reader engagement.
- Assist students and staff in locating and utilizing library resources.
- Support campus literacy initiatives, including Accelerated Reader (AR), by monitoring student progress, encouraging reading, and helping teachers interpret data.
- Prepare and maintain engaging bulletin boards, displays, and instructional materials that promote reading and support curriculum themes.
- Operate and maintain the library’s automated circulation system (Follett Destiny), including check-in, check-out, renewals, and holds.
- Receive and shelve new books, materials, and equipment.
- Maintain an organized, accurate library collection by shelving materials following the district cataloging system and regularly shelf-reading for accuracy.
- Prepare materials for classroom use, reserve collections, and teacher-requested resource sets.
- Repair books, magazines, and materials, or process damaged items for outside repair.
- Assess campus curriculum needs and student interests to develop collection recommendations using Follett Titlewave, including building and organizing saved lists, adding notes, and analyzing collection gaps; submit finalized lists to the district librarian for purchasing and administrative process .
- Maintain physical and computerized files, including card catalog, vertical file materials, and publisher catalogs.
- Prepare bibliographies, forms, purchase orders, requisitions, and routine correspondence.
- Assist district librarian in keeping administrative records and preparing required reports.
- Supervise students and assist teachers to maintain student behavior and maintain an orderly atmosphere.
