Position Summary
Emma Jewel Charter Academy is seeking a compassionate, student-centered, and collaborative Licensed Mental Health Counselor to support the social, emotional, behavioral, and mental wellness needs of scholars in grades K-8. The counselor will work closely with scholars, families, teachers, administrators, and community partners to create a safe and supportive school environment that promotes academic success and emotional well-being.
The ideal candidate is passionate about working with children and adolescents, understands trauma-informed practices, and is committed to supporting the whole child in a diverse educational setting.

Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesStudent Support & Counseling
- Provide individual and small-group counseling services for scholars in grades K-8.
- Conduct social-emotional and behavioral assessments as needed.
- Support scholars experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, behavioral challenges, peer conflict, or emotional regulation difficulties.
- Develop intervention plans and monitor scholar progress.
- Assist with crisis intervention and de-escalation when necessary.
- Support attendance, behavior, and social-emotional improvement initiatives.
Collaboration & Consultation
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, ESE staff, MTSS teams, and families to support scholar success.
- Participate in MTSS, RTI, IEP, 504, threat assessment, and problem-solving meetings as appropriate.
- Provide recommendations and strategies to staff regarding scholar social-emotional and behavioral needs.
- Maintain communication with parents and guardians regarding services and supports.
School Climate & Prevention
- Promote a positive school culture focused on emotional safety, resilience, and scholar well-being.
- Facilitate social-emotional learning (SEL) lessons, character education, and wellness initiatives.
- Provide classroom guidance and prevention programs related to bullying, conflict resolution, coping skills, and emotional regulation.
- Support restorative practices and behavior intervention strategies.
Compliance & Documentation
- Maintain accurate and confidential counseling records in compliance with state and federal laws, including FERPA and HIPAA as applicable.
- Complete required documentation, reports, referrals, and case notes in a timely manner.
- Coordinate referrals to outside agencies and community mental health resources when needed.
Professional Responsibilities
- Maintain current licensure and participate in ongoing professional development.
- Adhere to ethical standards and professional practices for school-based mental health counseling.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by school administration.
Qualifications Required
- Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling, Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or related field.
- Current Florida licensure of Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC).
- Experience working with children and adolescents in school or clinical settings.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care, child development, crisis intervention, and behavior support strategies.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with scholars, families, and staff.
Preferred
- Previous experience in a K-8 school setting.
- Experience supporting MTSS/RTI processes.
- Experience with SEL programs and restorative practices.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to move throughout the school campus and classrooms.
- Ability to respond promptly to crisis situations.
- Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written formats.
Work Schedule
- Full-time or Part-Time
- Occasional evening events or parent meetings may be required.
