Licensed Optician

Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Licensed Optician to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in optical services, patient care, and retail sales, with a comprehensive understanding of optometry and medical terminology. As a Licensed Optician, you will be responsible for assisting patients in selecting appropriate eyewear, ensuring accurate measurements, and providing exceptional customer service while maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations and privacy standards.

Duties

  • Assist patients in selecting eyewear that meets their prescription needs, style preferences, and lifestyle requirements.
  • Take precise measurements for eyeglasses and contact lenses, ensuring proper fit and functionality.
  • Conduct basic vision tests relevant to ocular health assessments.
  • Maintain detailed medical records and documentation in electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or other EMR platforms.
  • Perform laboratory tasks including lens edging, frame adjustments, and quality control to ensure optimal product delivery.
  • Educate patients on proper eyewear care, contact lens hygiene, and relevant medical conditions such as pediatrics or senior care considerations.
  • Collaborate with optometrist to support patient treatment plans involving procedures or diagnoses.
  • Uphold HIPAA regulations by safeguarding patient information and ensuring confidentiality at all times.
  • Manage retail sales operations efficiently, including inventory control, retail math calculations, and merchandising strategies.
  • Support clinic operations by adhering to aseptic techniques during equipment handling and maintaining a clean work environment.

Requirements

  • Valid state licensure as an Optician with appropriate certification
  • Knowledge of optometry practices, anatomy of the eye, physiology principles, and medical terminology related to eye health.
  • Experience working with EMR systems such as Officemate or similar platforms for medical records management.
  • Familiarity with medical billing and coding procedures relevant to optical services.
  • Strong retail management skills including sales techniques, inventory management, and retail math proficiency.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse patient populations including pediatrics and senior care groups.
  • Basic understanding of vital signs measurement and laboratory procedures related to optical testing.

Pay: $26.00 - $32.00 per hour
