Typical Accountabilities:
- Acts as Lead Engineer for a significant functional engineering topic
- Ensures that all activities and staff under their control comply with the AstraZeneca Safety, Health and Environment standards, and that plans for the continuous improvement of Safety, Health and Environment performance are implemented and monitored
- Maintains appropriate governance processes, key performance indicators and audits to ensure compliance with all statutory, regulatory and AstraZeneca Engineering requirements. Liaise with external regulatory bodies on engineering matters
- Responsible for Maintenance Excellence processes, ensuring that processes are fit for purpose and applied consistently across business units as appropriate
- Delivers process improvements in line with identified business cases to support improvements and to optimise the maintenance spend and headcount
- Recommends and leads the implementation of changes and improvements to engineering operations as appropriate
- Provides guidance and coaching to Asset Engineering Specialists and responsible for the standard of engineering professionalism within the function
- Recruits, develops, leads and manages engineering personnel to maximise the individual and team contributions to the safety, output, efficiency and quality of production operations. Ensures effective succession planning & talent management processes to maintain a secure supply of engineering skills
- Defines and controls the revenue budgets for own areas, and overview engineering spend
- Ensures that the capital expenditure programme for the business unit or function is developed and managed to meet long term business needs taking into account the life of existing equipment, forecasted growth of existing products, the introduction of new products and technical changes to products and plant

Education, Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Essential: A good engineering degree, with in depth relevant experience is required to enable the role holder to operate as an experienced professional engineer, who is likely to have attained Chartered status; Breadth of knowledge of the engineering support and project management theories and practices in more than one functional area; Good working knowledge of the industry is required to ensure that standards are applied to team working, and that they keep track of developments and assess their impact on the function
