We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician III (3rd Shift) for a high-volume plastics manufacturing operation located in Mebane, North Carolina. The Maintenance Tech III is a senior-level technical role responsible for optimizing equipment performance, performing complex preventive and corrective maintenance, and leading automation, repair, and upgrade projects.
This position requires deep technical expertise in Injection, Compression, and Composite Molding environments, with the ability to interpret advanced schematics, lead troubleshooting efforts, and mentor junior technicians. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem solver who thrives in an automated, fast-paced production environment.
Key Responsibilities
Lead complex preventive and corrective maintenance on molding, extrusion, and automation equipment.
Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and control system issues.
Install, modify, and verify proper function of machines, robots, and automated systems.
Fabricate and repair machine components using mills, lathes, grinders, welders, and cutting torches.
Perform welding and metal fabrication (MIG, TIG, stick, oxy/acetylene, and plasma).
Interpret and update blueprints, ladder logic, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics.
Utilize PLCs and servo/drive systems for troubleshooting and control logic verification.
Layout, assemble, and maintain pipe systems, valves, and pneumatic/hydraulic circuits.
Initiate and lead machine modification or improvement projects to increase reliability and output.
Serve as a mentor for Level I and II Maintenance Technicians, guiding in repair, troubleshooting, and maintenance techniques.
Must-Have Qualifications
Two- or four-year technical degree/certificate, OR 10–15 years of equivalent hands-on maintenance experience in an industrial manufacturing environment.
Minimum 8–10 years of preventive and corrective maintenance experience in at least one of the following processes:
Injection Molding
Compression Molding
Composite Molding
Roto-Molding
Advanced ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic schematics.
Demonstrated ability to diagnose and repair complex automation and machine control systems.
Proficient in PLC logic troubleshooting, robotics interfacing, and drive system repairs.
Skilled in fabrication, machining, and welding for part modification or repair.
Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) in English.
Proven record of reliability, job stability, and leadership in maintenance roles.
Nice-to-Have Qualifications
Hands-on experience with:
Haitian and JSW injection molding machines
Husky hydraulic injection systems
Blow molding and Uniloy Structural Web molding machines
Star and Yushin robots
Ferry rotational molding systems
Compression press or Martin Pultution molding equipment
Conair, Matsui, and Una-Dyn material handling systems
Prior certification in forklift, scissor lift, or boom lift operation.
